last month, we threw a popsicle playdate and the popsicle stick airplane craft was a huge hit. so, i thought i’d do a quick tutorial since it’s such an easy and inexpensive activity. here are the materials you’ll need:
MATERIALS:
2 popsicle sticks
2 small popsicle sticks
paint
paintbrush
wood glue
1 wooden bead
drill (optional; not pictured)
small screw (optional: not pictured)
screwdriver (optional)
take apart clothespin and set spring aside. paint clothespin, all popsicle sticks, and wooden bead in colors of your own choosing. i used red crayola tempera paint for the clothespin and bead and teal folkart satin acrylic paint for the wings, propeller, and rudder. once everything is dry, reassemble your clothespin. next, drill a small hole on the front top part of the clothespin (for the playdate, we pre-drilled these holes). use screwdriver to screw on one small popsicle stick and wooden bead through the drilled hole to make the propeller. this step is optional but makes the airplane so much cooler for kids because the propellers can actually spin. if you don’t have a drill or want to skip this step, you can just glue the bead and small popsicle stick directly on to the clothespin to make the propeller. lastly, use wood glue to glue on wings and rudder.
these are super simple to make and can be used in so many ways (as a toy, a clip to close favor bags, party decoration, etc). happy crafting!
